Young Talk was first published in February 1998. This monthly publication targets upper primary school pupils, young adolescents aged 10-14. Key topics covered include changes at puberty, children's rights and responsibilities, life skills, general body health, hygiene and age appropriate sexual health information.

Young Talk advocates abstinence. However, information is given about condoms when children request it. Readers who say they are sexually active are advised to reconsider what they are doing. Primary school teachers are encouraged to use Young Talk as a teaching tool in the classroom.

Young Talk has a monthly print run of 300,000 of which 40,000 are inserted in the leading daily The New Vision , 191,000 posted to 13,116 primary schools and the rest distributed by 500 NGOs and community groups.
